How does the Souper Soup Plan work? Very important medical questions! What is V8 Juice and where to get it? What is Lipton Beefy Onion Soup Mix? What is Swanson's Lower Sodium Beef Broth? What is a beef bouillon cube or package? What can I have for breakfast? What can I drink on the Souper Soup Plan? What exercises should I do on the plan? What are Souper Soup's Nutrition Facts? Measurement and conversion to Metric questions
How does the Souper Soup Plan work? There are only two ways to lose weight. First of all, the Souper Soup is a very low calorie diet. But, it is filling and you never feel hungry since you can eat all you want of it. Secondly, Souper Soup is high in fiber burning more calories to digest it than it adds to your system. Most importantly, you are eating other foods in a particular order that actually "tricks" your metabolism system into burning more calories than you consume! Q. This looks like the cabbage soup diet. Is it the same? A. We have had scads of inquiries along the lines of, "Is this the old cabbage soup diet, Mercy Hospital Diet, Mayo Clinic Diet," and numerous other such questions. The answer is NO, NO, NO and NO! Although the ingredients may be similar along with the foods you can eat each of the seven days this is a completely different and original "quickie" weight loss recipe. It is definitely NOT a "cabbage" diet. You'll never know it contains cabbage when you taste it. If there is any predominate taste it is TOMATO. Call it "the tomato soup diet" if you like. We call it simply, the "Souper Soup Weight Loss Recipe!" Believe me... It Works!!
Very important medical questions! You should check with your doctor before starting this or any weight loss plan. You, along with your doctor should be the ones to decide what will be good and acceptable for you. Q. I want to start your diet but I am allergic to bananas.
Can you tell me something else to eat instead. A. (For all three questions above) We do not have a substitute for bananas, rice, tomatoes, or any other basic item in the recipe. You should NOT use this plan if you are allergic to any item in it! If you leave out any basic item however, your results are not likely to be as good as you would expect.
A. Artificial sweeteners have been available for over 60 years now. During those years, different groups have fought each of them tooth and nail about their safety. My family and I consume them without worry and have for many years (almost 60). Whether or not they are safe in the long term is a decision you and your doctor will have to determine. We are not legally able to say. Please do not write us referring us to web sites with negative reports on these substances. We have read them all and we continue to study all available medical reports on them from both the U.S.Government as well as major universities.
Q. I'm a diabetic, may I use this weight loss plan? A. (For all 3 questions) Those are all three medical questions that we are legally and ethically unable to answer. Thousands of diabetics and others with such conditions have successfully used our soup recipe. In many cases, they have reported to us that their doctor examined the diet and told them it was OK. However this diet is about YOU not all those other people. What is great for them could be terrible for you. Substitute any medical condition into the question above and our answer will always be the same "take our recipe to your doctor and ask the question of him or her!"
Q. I am pregnant. Is it OK for me to use the Souper Soup Weight Loss plan? Q. I am breast feeding my baby and need to get rid of some excess fat. May I use your soup recipe to do so? A. (For both the above questions) No!
Q. What about all the salt content in this soup? BAD BAD BAD especially for people on blood pressure medication or who have a blood pressure problem being high. A. You're so right! As we state at the very first of this plan, please check with your doctor before starting. This is true of all weight loss plans. Your doctor should be the one to decide if a plan is suitable for you and most especially if you suffer from any medical condition high blood pressure, diabetes, or any other such problem!
Q. Is it safe for my mother to follow this diet as she is 70 years of age. A. The plan is for any age over 18, as long as their doctor says it is OK for them to use it. We have heard from people as old as 85 who have successfully used the diet.
Q. Why is it so unsafe to continue this diet for more than a week? A. The plan is not designed for long term use and could be unhealthy for a continuous period over 7 days. It is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue for longer than a week. You should find a long term plan that would be suitable for your needs and help you reach your long term goals. Long term diets are ones that you may follow until you reach
your long term goal. We offer several long term plans on our
web site at Most plans advertised on our site are advertised and offered by other companies. It would be unfair of us to our advertisers to attempt to rate the effectiveness of these diets even if we could... but we can tell you that the "Idiot-Proof" diet is by far the most popular right now. We have had no complaints about it. The Adkins Diet as well as South Beach are still popular, although we do not offer them. Or, check with your doctor for a plan that will be suitable for you. We also offer Lillie's book, Souper Weight Loss Secrets It will be of extensive daily help to you with any long term diet you may be on. Lillie's book shows you how to make all diets more effective and easier to follow without getting hungry. You also get dozens of additions and substitutions for the Souper Soup recipe that make it better tasting and very effective for long term weight loss.
Q. Can I drink a daily protein shake while on the Souper Diet? I had gastric bypass surgery and need protein. A. Please check with your doctor for a plan that would be suitable for you. Making changes to the Souper Soup plan such as having a protein shake will not give you the results you hope for.
Q. I take a multi-vitamin every day. Should I continue to take it while I'm on the Souper Soup diet? A. Yes, by all means continue taking your vitamin.
What is V8 Juice and where to get it? V8 Juice is a blend of eight vegetable juices distributed in the U.S.A. by the Campbell Soup Company. Ask your grocery supplier if they can obtain it for you. In the UK, you can find V8 Juice in the supermarkets Tesco, Sainsburys, ASDA, and Morrisons. One of our readers in England found the V8 juice in the Supermaket Tesco at 99p for 500ml. Another reader in Norway tells us that a 7 veggie substitute called "Granini" is readily available in supermarkets there. The primary element in V8 is tomato juice. If you simply can not get V8, you may mix your own substitute by adding a small amount of as many vegetable juices as you can obtain with tomato juice and seasoning it to your taste. You also might try: Homemade V8 Juice
Q. Apart from tomatoes, what other vegetable juices are in V8? A. Carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress, and spinach.
Q. I am wondering about the salt in V8 juice and what other juice I could use instead. In foods and soups I prepare myself, I can omit the salt but in prepared broths, canned tomatoes, and other prepared items it is quite difficult. A. There is a lower sodium version of the V8 juice. However,
if you need to watch your salt content... by all means do not
use these products until you check with your doctor Q. I drink a lot of V8 juice. If I drink my water, can I still drink the juice during this diet? Q. How much V-8 juice can I drink and on what days. I didn't know if it would count as a fruit drink. A. (To both questions above) You should not add the V8 juice to the plan as a substitute for a drink, a fruit or veggies. It is to be used only as an ingredient of the Souper Soup. You might try pureeing the Souper Soup and drinking it either hot or cold.
What is Lipton Beefy Onion Soup Mix? Q. Is it necessary to use Lipton Soup or can I use any other brand like Knorr? A. The onion soup is for taste. You can use Knorr or any other brand dry soup mix... or you may substitute a chopped fresh medium onion.
Q. I can't find Lipton beefy onion soup mix. What can I substitute for these? A. The onion soup is for taste. If you can find a dry soup mix you can use it or you may use fresh onion.
Q. when I went to the super market I got everything except the Beefy Onion Soup Mix. They had never heard of a soup mix before, so I made the soup with out it, will this make a difference? Q. I am not living in the US and am not able to find Lipton Beefy Onion Soup Mix. Any substitutes or suggestions? A. (For both questions above) The soup mix is for flavor. If this is not available, you may use another dry soup mix or a chopped medium size fresh onion. Any spices and herbs may be used in the soup to suit your taste. Spice it to your own personal taste. Souper Soup is an important part of the plan and if you do not enjoy the taste, chances are that you will not complete the plan.
What is Swanson's Lower Sodium Beef Broth? Q. What is Swanson's Lower Sodium Beef Broth? Will I find it in my country or is there another product that I can use in its place? A. We're not sure how widely distributed the Swanson brand
may be. Heinz also puts out a low-in-sodium beef broth. You may
substitute beef broth of any brand (preferably low sodium). A beef bouillon cube and water can also be substituted for the beef broth. It is the same as beef stock cubes. The beef broth is added for taste and may be eliminated without affecting the plan if you like. You may substitute vegetable stock if you are a vegetarian.
What is a beef bouillon cube or package?
Q. Beef bouillon cube - Is it the same as a Beef Stock cube? A. Yes. "Bouillon" is French, for broth. Bouillon
cubes are a flavor-concentrated powder of dehydrated beef, chicken
or vegetable stock. Dehydrated bouillon must be dissolved in
a hot liquid before using. You may use either beef, chicken or
vegetable bouillon cubes. This is for adding flavor to your Souper
Soup.
What can I have for breakfast? Q. It seems pretty strange to eat soup at breakfast, or did I misunderstand? Is soup all I can have for breakfast? A. Most people use fruits for breakfast on the days that fruits are allowed. You can make a smoothie from them. The bananas and milk along with flavoring such as vanilla and artificial sweetener makes a great smoothie on Day 4. Also, you may puree' the Souper Soup and make a juice to drink. You can have it cold or hot. Yes, many people do have the Souper Soup for breakfast. Yes, some people do have it in the morning and say it makes a great breakfast.
Q. What is a smoothie? A. A Smoothie is a drink that is made by mixing fruit and milk or yogurt, along with flavoring such as vanilla and artificial sweetener in a blender. The bananas and skim milk or fat free yogurt can be used on Day 4. You may want to freeze the banana in advance. You may also puree' any fruit with ice cubes and flavoring to make a smoothie. The only day a smoothie with milk is allowed is Day 4 and must be skim or fat free milk then.
What can I drink on the Souper Soup plan? A. You can drink decaffeinated coffee, decaffeinated regular black tea, or decaffeinated green tea. Neither cream, powdered creamer, nor milk is allowed except on day 4 when skim milk (no fat milk) is scheduled. You may use it in your coffee or tea that day only. Green Tea is an especially good drink when trying to lose weight. Several studies have shown it to actually burn calories. Many carbonated drinks have caffeine and calories. Diet Rite has diet drinks that have no calories and no caffeine. This is true of water also. Read the labels. Any drinks you find that have no caffeine and no calories are OK to have on the plan. You may drink all the water you want in fact you should drink at least 8 - 8 oz glasses of water each of the 7 days. Crystal Lite has a great assortment of flavors that you add to water to make a soft drink. They are only 5 calories per serving. Walmart has their own brand that is similar to Crystal Light. It is under the "Great Value" brand and has a green logo in the middle of the box that says, "Easy to use on the go." They are zero calories, sodium free, and sugar free. In some areas, Walmart also has a line of flavored water. It's called Clear American. It is carbonated, however, it has no calories, sodium, or caffeine. I comes in numerous flavors. It's great for people who can't drink a lot of plain water .You also might try pureeing the Souper Soup and drinking
the soup itself
either hot or cold
as a drink. Q. Does green tea have a lot of caffeine? A. You can find decaffeinated green tea.
Q. Does Iced Green Tea burn the same amount of calories as hot Green Tea? A. It doesn't make any difference. The only thing I found
negative was that the ice could water the tea down some. Q. Are you allowed to drink skim milk throughout the Souper Soup diet or just on day 4? A. No you may not. Skim milk (no fat milk) is allowed on Day 4 only.
Q. Can I have Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi with the plan? A. No.

General Questions & Answers Q. How do I use the small can of tomatoes on day 5? Do I cook the beef, chicken or fish in it, or just eat it separate? A. You may use the canned tomatoes as a sauce for your meat or you may eat it separately. But, be sure to use the canned tomatoes instead of fresh, as they contain nutrients not found in the fresh.
Q. May I have fresh tomatoes instead of canned ones? A. No. Believe it or not, canned tomatoes have nutrients not found in fresh tomatoes.
Q. Are canned fruits in natural unsweetened syrup acceptable? Are canned veggies such as spinach acceptable? A. The syrup... even though natural in canned fruits... contains calories that throw the plan out of kilter. Same with the canned veggies. You have to watch what they were cooked in. If fresh fruits and veggies are not available... try to get frozen items that are not packed in any added sugar or syrup.
Q. What is the least amount of weight someone has lost on this 7 day plan? A. We can only judge by the people who write us and a few say they actually gained a pound or two on the diet. But less than a dozen out of over a quarter million people to whom we have given the diet have written us with that complaint.
Q. I have to go to a family breakfast on my 5th day... what can I eat? Please advise me, I want to stay with the plan as I am enjoying it so much. A. Try eating some of the Souper Soup before you go to help curb your appetite, so that you won't be tempted to overdo the breakfast foods. Also, get back on track with the plan for the rest of the day.

Q. It didn't work, but I don't know what I did wrong... I followed the plan exactly A. There are many factors that determine how much and how fast people lose weight... such as amount of weight you have to lose (the fewer pounds the slower it comes off) age, activity level, time of the month, and even gender. Men seem to lose quicker. Medications can also definitely be a factor. If you do not eat enough food, your metabolism will slow down and you will not lose weight. Your body is not going to let you starve yourself if it can prevent it! If you have recently started an exercise program, this could be a factor. Sometimes during the first few weeks, you will have the added weight of a water buildup around your muscles to keep them from being sore.
Q. On Day Six of the Souper Soup Diet... are potatoes, namely mashed potatoes considered a veggie that we can eat? A. Sorry, no starchy veggies such as peas, beans, corn, potatoes, or rice on the plan unless specified that you may have them on certain days of the plan.
Q. I live out of the United States and we do not have skim milk but we do have low fat would that be ok. A. We don't recommend making changes to the plan. Making changes may not give you the results you hope for. However, since the skim or fat free milk is not available, try to use the lowest fat content you are able to find in your country.
Q. The soup itself is it a necessity to eat it or can we do without the soup and follow the diet itself. A. The Souper Soup is important actually the very basic requirement of the plan. It contains important nutrients you need for this plan. Making changes, such as not having the Souper Soup will probably cause the plan to fail.
Q. This is my third day on the diet and I have not deviated at all. I've lost not even an ounce. Is that normal? Q. I'm on day 4 now and thought I would see at least 1 or 2 pounds drop. I am following the plan to the tee and haven't lost a pound. Is there any reason I may not lose weight while following this diet? A. (For both questions above) I am sorry you aren't having the results you had expected. There are many factors that determine how much and how fast people lose weight, such as amount of weight you have to lose, (the fewer pounds the slower it comes off) age, activity level, time of the month, and even gender. Men seem to lose quicker. If you have just started an exercise program, this could be a factor. Sometimes during the first few weeks, you will have a water buildup around your muscles to keep them from being sore. Q. Is it necessary to use meat in my soup? Q. I am a vegetarian. products used in the plan. Q. Today I am at Day 2. Question, Can I also have a baked potato as a vegetable at lunch? A. Only one potato on Day 2 for dinner.

Q. I need to stay away from beef and pork so I have been substituting the cold water fish (fresh or frozen) instead. Do you have any suggestions that would be helpful in cases such as this? A. Yes, chicken and fish are the two other choices of protein you may have on these days
Q. One day has six bananas and none the other days. Why? A. Each food on our plan is chosen for its particular nutrients and calories to help you lose weight. One of our readers said they chopped the bananas into a bowl with skim milk. It was their way of eating several bananas. Another way is to make a smoothie from the bananas. Puree'
them with milk, flavoring such as vanilla, and artificial sweetener,
if you use it. The banana can be frozen ahead of time. Makes
a great smoothie. By the way it is UP TO six bananas.
You don't have to eat all of the six bananas.

Q. Can I add some milk in the bowl of soup every day, just enough to change the taste? A. The only day you may have milk on the plan is Day 4. The foods listed for each day below the recipe are the only ones you are allowed on the plan
Q. Do you cook the veggies, then use the cooking liquid as the soup? A. No you must consume the vegetables that you cook in the soup. The cooking liquid plus the veggies ARE the soup.
Q. Should I eat one of the following meats once or twice a day Fish, Chicken, Turkey? A. There are only two days that you may have them on the Souper Soup plan and you can have them at any meal.
Q. Can you tell me what fruits and veggies I should not eat on a daily basis. A. On our Souper Soup plan you cannot have any peas, beans, corn, rice or potatoes unless specified on the plan. Green beans, also, known as pole beans or string beans, are allowed. For best results, avoid white, pinto, black, lentils, lima, and butter beans. The only fruits limited on the plan are the bananas and should
be eaten only on Day 4. Q. Can I have low fat milk with cereals and museli along with Souper soup diet? A. Sorry, no milk or cereals and museli on the plan. The only day you may have milk is Day 4 and it MUST be skim milk (fat free milk).

There are many factors that determine how much and how fast people lose weight such as amount of weight you have to lose (the fewer pounds the slower it comes off) age, activity level, and even gender. Men seem to lose quicker. You should only use the plan again after a 4 week break on a regular balanced diet.
Q. Is the weight I lose on this plan fat, muscle, or just water? A. With any weight loss plan, some of your loss will be water, especially during the first week. But, the important thing is to find a plan after the week to suit your individual weight loss needs. We offer several on our website.
Q. Are you supposed to just eat the soup and nothing else for 7 days or what? A. Please read the Souper Soup recipe for the instructions and foods you must eat along with the Souper Soup for the seven days.
Q. Do you have to be over weight for this diet to work? I am 111 lbs. which isn't my ideal, but nowhere near over weight. I just wanna lose about 6 lbs. Will this diet work for me? A. I am unable to tell you how much you will lose on the plan. There are many factors that determine how much and how fast people lose weight such as amount of weight you have to lose (the fewer pounds the slower it comes off) age, activity level, time of the month for women, and even gender. Men seem to lose quicker. Having to lose only a few pounds may be harder to do.
Q. On the diet, can you eat ANY vegetable? Or, are some better than others? A. Starchy veggies are not allowed on the plan unless specified. The starchy veggies are peas, beans, corn, potatoes and rice. You may have the potato and rice only on the days listed on the plan. All other veggies will be fine and we don't recommend any over the others.
Q. I'm totally new at this, and was wondering, when you say 18-1 cup servings, it makes a really big pot, so if I wanna make it everyday, I just divide the recipe by 18? How does the portions work? A. I don't know why you would possibly want to make the Souper Soup everyday. I have no idea how you could divide each ingredient by 18. The soup keeps well in the refrigerator and can be frozen. There is really no need to make every day.
Q. I have made the soup recipe, thank you and it works great. Is there any problem with adding other vegetables to it like green beans, parsnip, etc. Thanks for the miracle. A. No
you should not add anything to it during your
7 day quickie weight loss diet.
Q. I put some soup into the blender and it came out like a very nice pureed soup. Does it matter if you eat it pureed or do you need the vegetables in pieces for roughage. It really is good pureed.
